Washington Health Foundation
Earns
National Recognition
It is one of the
highest honors any organization or campaign can receive:
a prestigious Pollie Award for Campaign Excellence. The
Pollie Awards are given out by the American Association
of Political Consultants to recognize the “Best in the
Business” in Political Consulting and Public Affairs. We
are extraordinarily proud to announce that the
Washington Health Foundation’s Healthiest State in the
Nation Campaign is a 2008 Pollie Award winner!
The judges said that in this year of great presidential
field campaigns - and more than 2,000 major public
policy field campaigns - no one organized and engaged
the public better than the Washington Health
Foundation’s Healthiest State in the Nation Campaign.
That’s right, the Washington Health Foundation was
singled out as “2008 Field Campaign of the Year” - the
top honor in one of seven major award categories. It is
an incredible accomplishment and a great testament to
the hard work and dedication of the Foundation staff.
This year’s award also has much to do with the
participation in the Healthiest State Campaign by more
than 1,000 organizations, 35,000 individuals and almost
400 schools from all across Washington state - making
this campaign the largest civic engagement project for
health in state history.
The Healthiest State in the Nation Campaign received the
Pollie award for its comprehensive approach to coalition
building, technology innovations, top-down and bottom-up
organizing, and its crafting of competition and fun as
its hooks to success.
When presenting the award, the Healthiest State Campaign
was praised for being free to join and only taking an
e-mail address and password to participate. Individuals,
organizations, businesses and schools can join the
campaign at www.HealthiestState.org, and use the
innovative trackers to log miles of exercise, as well as
manage weight, sleep, water intake, oral health, tobacco
cessation, and more.
“Thank you to the American Association of Political
Consultants for this award,” said Greg Vigdor, President
and CEO of the Washington Health Foundation. “The
political campaign model has become the success story we
now enjoy. We have learned from both the Democratic and
Republican campaign strategies, and have blended these
elements to create a bipartisan effort to improve the
health of the people of Washington State.”
“We are pleased that this campaign model is working to
direct attention and support to the areas in which
Washington must improve in order to become number one.
Since the campaign began, we’ve already moved up from
#17 to #12 in state health rankings, and this is just
one more step in our goal to make Washington the
Healthiest State in the Nation!”
