C Is For Community

In each WRHA Newsletter, the pages are filled with examples of residents in rural settings working together to keep their communities healthy and thriving. These successes are a result of all residents working together toward common goals, not just health care providers.

The Washington Rural Health Association is a statewide rural community that comes together on behalf of rural residents in this state. However, when I review the membership roster, I don’t see the diversity of membership as is reflected in our local rural communities. If WRHA is to remain healthy and thrive, we must add members to mirror this diversity.

Our WRHA Membership Committee is hard at work developing new member recruitment strategies. Membership recruitment must be a priority for each of us, and not left just to the Committee. I challenge each of you to bring at least one new member to WRHA this year. Who are the leaders that influence the framework for your healthy community? Are they members of WRHA? We need teachers, senior citizens, bankers, and business owners just as we need health care providers. Do your part to keep our community strong!

Membership information is available on page 19 of this newsletter, on our website at www.wrha.com, or from our central office at wrha@wsu.edu or 800-369-0975. We are always happy to pass along information, materials, and event invitations to current and potential members.
